AOC A42HD84
Positives:
Relatively inexpensive; capable of producing reasonably deep blacks; accurate color decoding with no red push; clean video processing with 2:3 pull-down; PC input; distinctive look.
Negatives:
Extremely blue color temperature that cannot be adjusted; some false-contouring artifacts in dark scenes; no picture-in-picture; limited connectivity with just one DVI and no HDMI inputs.
Facts:
While the AOC A42HD84 is one of the most-affordable 42-inch plasmas on the market, its sparse features and inaccurate color makes it less of a value.

Very bright image; sharp focus and zoom; optional LAN box; stereo speakers; pop-out handle.
Negatives:
Large and heavy; runs hot; loud fan; needs an FTP server to project images from a network.

Hannspree Xv
Positives:
Inexpensive; relatively good shadow detail; solid standard-definition performance; numerous aspect ratio controls; user menu for color-temperature adjustments; classy design.
Negatives:
Produces a light color of black; introduces more false contouring than other LCDs; reddish tinge in darker areas; no noise reduction; skimpy input selection with just one component-video and one HDMI port.
Facts:
Average picture quality doesn't prevent the Hannspree Xv 32-inch LCD TV from being a solid choice for budget flat-panel buyers.

Insignia NS-30HTV
Positives:
Inexpensive; smooth video processing with 2:3 pull-down to remove jagged lines; customizable input memories.
Negatives:
Bulky compared to slim CRTs and flat LCDs; DVD and HDTV sources using component-video input produce green tinge in dark areas; relatively soft image quality; only one input for component video and none for HDMI.
Facts:
The Insignia NS-30HTV can display wide-screen HDTV and costs a relative pittance, but for most people the savings won't justify its problematic picture quality.

JVC HD-58S998
Positives:
The JVC HD-58S998 rear-projection HDTV has a beautiful design that includes an extra-slim bezel and a 10-inch-deep cabinet; produces a deep shade of black; relatively accurate initial color temperature.
Negatives:
Geometry issues cause bent horizontal lines; inaccurate primary color of green; computer input only goes up to 1,024x768 resolution; no true independent input memories.
Facts:
Although it had a hard time keeping a straight line, the JVC HD-58S998 gives solid picture quality from an ultraslim cabinet.
Note: This product is part of the JVC HD-S998 series. .
